Dispenser & Technician roles

Of course, a pharmacy team is not made up of Pharmacists alone. Every team includes a variety of support members, each one carrying out vital tasks, freeing up Pharmacists to spend more time with their patients.

Whether you're a qualified Dispenser or you're thinking about joining the profession, we have a role that'll suit you. We offer Dispensers and trainee Dispensers a structured career path, high-quality training, and plenty of locations to choose from.

Accuracy Checking Technician (ACT)

If you joined us having completed an accuracy checking qualification with a recognised trainer, you'll benefit from a thorough and structured induction programme. If you want to work towards achieving your qualification, our internal training programme will help you through it, every step of the way.

Having a personal CPD programme is important because we realise how crucial it is to keep your skills and knowledge up to date. So you'll have access to online resources along with conferences and training days, making sure you're always up to speed on industry developments.

Based in one of our busy dispensing businesses, you'll lead the dispensing activities and help the pharmacy team provide over-the-counter advice and remedies. Developing relationships with patients, building a great working atmosphere with colleagues, you'll be an integral part of the team that provides the best possible advice and service, to your patients.

Registered Pharmacy Technician

Becoming a Registered Pharmacy Technician offers you a host of benefits, both professionally and personally. With an NVQ3 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) you're preparing for an exciting future in dispensing and pharmacy services. We understand the importance of your own professional development, and so we offer additional training and support to help you maintain your Continuing Professional Development portfolio.

Your breadth of experience will allow you to deal with more complex patient enquiries, and we've invested in technology that reduces paperwork, so you can spend more time talking to patients, and less time filling in forms. If you're ambitious, our huge network of pharmacies means there's plenty of opportunity for promotion.

We don't put limits on your career; you can train to develop additional skills such as accuracy checking, support the training of others, or develop to become a healthcare team manager.

Dispenser Roles

As a qualified Dispenser with an NVQ2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent), you'll find your career at Boots UK won't start and end with dispensing medicines and prescriptions, advice and recommending over-the-counter products. Your key role in understanding customers' needs, offering helpful and accurate advice and creating a positive environment ensures you offer expert care.

What's more, if you want to progress we'll fully support you through the next stages of your career. Offering further training and helping you gain further qualifications to become a registered Dispenser, ACT or beyond.

Trainee Dispenser

To become an integral part of the team, you'll work alongside others at the heart of the pharmacy during your training programme. You'll learn how to dispense prescriptions, recommend over-the-counter medicines and give basic healthcare advice - helping customers get the products they need to feel better.

We'll cover the cost of your training, so that you can achieve nationally recognised qualifications to NVQ2 or NVQ3 level and beyond. But most importantly we'll make sure you have the time to study around your work and other commitments, and full support throughout.

Dispensing is a well-regarded profession that requires specialist skills - but you don't need any specific qualifications to enter as a trainee. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn will help you get there, as well as a passion for providing great service to our customers. If you're confident, organised, and have a conscientious approach, you'll fit in well.
